ProTaper® nickel-titanium rotary files are designed for treating especially difficult, highly calcified or curved root canals. Progressive taper, patented flute design flexibility and efficiency support consistent, successful cleaning and shaping.

• SX or Shaping X files perform coronal enlargement and shaping; on long roots they shape coronal aspects with their special flute design
• Progressively larger taper along the file length provides canal space
• F-1 or S-1 Shaping prepares the coronal canal; F-2 or S2 enlarges and prepares the middle third — both prepare the coronal two-thirds without progressively enlarging the apical third
• Finishing instruments F1, F2 and F3 best finish the apical third and carefully, progressively enlarge the middle third
• Usually only one finishing instrument is needed to prepare the apical third of a single canal, selected based on canal curvature and cross-sectional diameter
