Miris colour management — shade selection is the first step of treatment. It is performed immediately after cleaning the teeth and in any case after cavity preparation and rubber dam placement.
Shade selection in two steps
1. Dentin shade selection. First determine the dentin shade using the shade guide at the cervical dentin. Enamel has minimal thickness and almost no effect on colour perception. If shade is determined farther away, the attenuating effect of enamel on colour must be considered. For example, selecting dentin shade «S3» based on the central buccal surface corresponds to dentin shade «S4» or «S5». However, this approach is not recommended because it is not accurate enough. Dentin shade can also be decided after cavity preparation.
2. Enamel shade selection and translucency. Enamel translucency characteristics vary between individuals and with age. To determine enamel differences and translucency, the incisal edges and proximal areas of contralateral and adjacent teeth are examined and preselected with an enamel shade guide.
