IPS Style Ceram – metal-ceramic system

The patented metal-ceramic material IPS Style offers dental laboratories maximum efficiency, easy handling and lifelike aesthetics. It is the first material in the history of dental ceramics to contain oxyapatite crystals. These crystals reflect a high amount of illumination and give restorations natural-looking depth.

IPS Style® Ceramic Powder Opaquer 870 is an opaque ceramic material that masks the metal framework and establishes the base shade.

IPS Style® is an innovative ceramic system for fabricating metal-ceramic restorations from anterior crowns to multi-unit bridges. IPS Style is based on newly developed glass ceramics containing leucite, fluorapatite and oxyapatite. They enable fabrication of restorations with high firing stability, minimum shrinkage and nature-true aesthetics.

IPS Style is a feldspar-free veneering ceramic for fabricating dental restorations on high-gold, reduced-gold, palladium-based and base-metal alloy frameworks using both the single-layer procedure and the conventional layering technique in the CTE range of 13.8 to 15.2 × 10⁻⁶/K (25–500 °C).

The main firing cycle for IPS Style Ceram is performed at 790 °C / 1454 °F, significantly lower than the temperature needed for conventional feldspar ceramics.

The chemical basis of IPS Style consists of mixed glass-ceramics containing leucite KAlSi₂O₆, fluorapatite Ca₅(PO₄)₃F and oxyapatite NaY₉(SiO₄)₈O₂ as crystal phases. The contents and distributions of the crystals in these glass ceramics and their viscosities are responsible for the physicochemical properties of IPS Style, with carefully adjusted grain-size distribution in the layering materials. This principle applies to all materials from Opaquers to Incisals and ensures optimum formation of the restoration in terms of adhesion, compatibility and aesthetic appearance.

Contraindications

• Bruxism
• Veneering of titanium and zirconium oxide frameworks
• Other uses not listed in the indications

Important processing restrictions

• Exceeding or falling below the prescribed veneering layer thicknesses
• Not observing the layer thickness ratio between framework and layering ceramic
• Mixing and co-processing with other dental ceramics
• Veneering dental alloys outside the prescribed CTE range
• Not observing the required minimum connection and framework thicknesses

Side effects

IPS Style Ceram restorations must not be used if patients are known to be allergic to any of the components in the materials.
